The Haskell Implementors' Meeting (HIM) 2003 is going to be hosted by Karl-Filip Faxén at KTH in Kista, Stockholm. We are aiming for a two-day-long meeting that will take place on the 29th and 30th of August, thus starting on the day immediately following the Haskell Workshop at PLI in Uppsala and overlapping with the last day of PLI activities.
HIM is very informal, and part of the goal of the meeting is to provide a forum for wide-ranging discussions on various topics related to Haskell Implementation or tool support for Haskell. Still, some kind of program is needed, and a preliminary program based on what people have told us they want to talk about and discuss can be found here.
The program is just a suggestion at this point. As we want the meeting to be dynamic and flexible, it may also be the case that the program will be altered on the fly during the meeting. Please send me any comments or questions you may have. In particular, if you are on the program as a speaker or a discussion chairman, make sure you are happy with the affiliation, title, the amount of time allocated, etc. Or if you want to change your mind about what you proposed, just let me know. If you have an abstract for your talk or demo, and if you have not yet sent it to me, then it would be nice if you could send that as well.
If you have not yet signed up as a speaker, or if there are topics you would like to see discussed, brief statements you would like to make, it may still be possible to squeeze that into the program. Please let us know as soon as possible.
Participation is by invitation. If you have not been invited yet, but feel that you should have been, then don't be shy: send a mail to one of the organizers.
A list of those invited people that we know are coming can be found here. If you think you ought to be on this list by now, but are not, then please let us know as soon as possible.
It is not far from Uppsala to Stockholm and the communications are excellent. We estimate that the trip will take slightly more than an hour, and we believe people wishing to participate in the Haskell Workshop prior to attending HIM will find that the options of traveling from Uppsala to Stockholm either at some point during the evening of the 28th (before or after dinner) or on Friday morning the 29th are all reasonably convenient.
Here are some more detailed directions from Karl-Filip:
HIM 2003 takes places at the IT-University in Kista, located northwest of Stockholm. To reach Kista from the railway station Stockholms central, make your way to the main metro hub, T-Centralen, which is accessible from the railway station using pedestrian tunnels. Take the blue line towards Akalla (there is also blue line towards Hjulsta; do not take that one) and use the exit furthest from the city centre once you reach Kista. Turn right below the stairs, cross a bridge to a shopping mall and continue straight ahead through the mall, cross another bridge and the building on your left is your destination.
There are two options for entering the building, depending on whether some construction work has been finished by the end of August. Likely it hasn't, in which case you enter through an unobtrusive door left of the path. Otherwise, you pass that door, turn a corner and enter through the main entrance. Whatever entrance is used, there will be signs directiong you to the HIM meeting, which takes place in Room 439 on the ground floor.
Now you know why you should never ask me for directions ;-)
There will be a small fee, payable when you get there, covering lunches, coffee, and the fees for the conference facilities. It will be around SEK 300.
Karl-Filip has made preliminary room reservations at two nearby hotels. However, this is just to ensure availability of rooms, you still need to make your own reservations. The hotels are:
