1.9l VW TD Motor Mount Expo

For those who wish to install a TD engine in a VW Vanagon there are two choices. A 1.6l TD from an A2 Passat (called Quantum in the USA) will swap directly for the naturally aspirated 1.6l block. However, Quantum's are few and far between in the junk yards. In addition the ones you are likely to find now are either well worn high milage, or if they suffered an early death have been sitting for a long time in the yard.

More attractive is to install a newer model 1.9l TD or TDI or 1.6l TD. These come with a different manifold, and the standard Vanagon motor mount interferes with the turbo and waste gate. Following here is a picture expo of different motor mounts that solves this problem.

My own motor mount design. This one fits the 1.9l block. Link to a description and drawings

Jack Ewald modified a standard vanagon mount to work with a 1.6l Jetta TD engine. Link to Jack's WWW site

Mark and Craig Drillock used a mount from Winkler in Germany. This one fits the 1.9l TD.

Another German mount. This one used by Martin.Schulte . It uses the bosses in the rear of the block and I would think that it would fit both 1.9l and 1.6l blocks.
